Who we are

My name is Daniel Nieves, My wife Sherry and I are the owners of “STRAIGHT UP BOXING” which we run with the help of our daughter Isabella. I have over twenty years of boxing, and coaching experience. I am an ex-professional fighter, and am the proud holder of the “Chicago Golden Gloves Championship” of 1986. I have work as a trainer at the legendary “Windy City Boxing Gym” in Chicago, IL. I have trained in three national championships. In addition, I have trained David Diaz for the 1996 U.S.Olympics, trained Fres Oquendo, National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion, and Tommy Zbikowski from Notre Dame University, who now plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

I will teach you the basic and the Art of boxing, starting with the fighting stance, jab, and many other moves to build your ability and confident.

Our Philosophy

Boxing is more than a sport, while it provides a great workout; it also meets other challenges confronted by today’s changing society. For example, Boxing has the potential to provide a healthy outlet for pent up aggression and anger issues. By releasing stress, anger, and frustration in healthy way, it becomes easier to handle life’s everyday stressors. Participant will learn that losing their temper or being overly aggressive is extremely counter-productive. Therefore, through discipline, training, and preparation Boxing is an alternative to negative behaviors. Boxing classes are structure and provided in a safe environment with a professional boxing trainer.
